RE:BROWN – Remediation and brownfield investments Conference 2024 – 2 october

The Hungarian Association of Environmental Enterprises (HAEE) organizes a biannual international professional conference to present the results and challenges in the field of remediation, sharing the latest research and development results and professional experiences. This year’s conference will take place within the framework of the ENVIRONTEC powered by ÖKOINDUSTRIA international environmental industry trade fair on 2nd October 2024 in Budapest, at the HUNGEXPO Exhibition and Congress Centre.

One of the priority topics of the Hungarian EU Presidency in the second half of 2024 is the development of EU regulatory frameworks for soil contamination and measures to prevent and eliminate pollution. In this context, Hungary is carrying out the EU’s legislative task on monitoring soil and restoring soil health, which started in 2022. The proposed legislation regulates measures for the assessment, registration and restoration of contaminated soils. The development of the legislation is closely linked to the European Commission’s New Soil Strategy adopted in 2021, which sets out medium- and long-term (2050) measures to comprehensively protect soils that are currently lacking in EU environmental legislation, linked to existing EU environmental strategies. Besides this, there is an ongoing effort to renew the Hungarian remediation regulation, with emphasis not only on the remediation of contaminated sites, but also on the rehabilitation of brownfield and rust belt areas.

The conference provides an opportunity to discuss domestic and EU remediation issues, current problems, goals-plans, legislative and implementation tasks, share good practices and techniques, and present the use of abandoned industrial/commercial/military/transport facility areas for new functions.

Who do we recommend to attend? For international professional organizations, experts, and enterprises dealing with the situation exploration and implementation of contaminated sites, for representatives of science, as well as for companies with such fields, state actors, authority, and legislative experts.
